Anatomical Illustrations of Mythological Creatures

Egads! Have you seen these illustrations by E.B. Hudspeth? They’re admirably researched, meticulously detailed, and creepily fascinating.

These images, and more, can be seen in the book The Resurrectionist: The Lost Work of Dr. Spencer Black. According to its Amazon description, the book is comprised of a biography — of the fictional Dr. Spencer Black, a sinister medical doctor who develops an intriguing hypothesis regarding the origins of humans — and his magnum opus: The Codex Extinct Animalia, a Gray’s Anatomy for mythological beasts.

Quite a few reviewers state that the book is worth buying if for the illustrations alone, but that the twisted yet fascinating story makes it extra special. You can bet that I’ve put it on my Amazon wishlist. 🙂
