1. 7 Little Words
This little app has got me losing sleep and seeing word combos everywhere! (Similar to when you play Tetris for too long, you start seeing Tetris shapes in your head. :-P) I’ve gotten a bunch of my friends hooked on it too, including J, who usually hates word games.
I’m going to let the following screenshots do the explaining for you:
I highly, highly recommend this game for all my readers…even if you normally don’t like word games!
Get the Android version here.
Get the iOS version here.
2. Divergent
Last month, I fell on The Hunger Games bandwagon…and I fell hard. So much so that when I finished the trilogy — literally within days — I began to exhibit symptoms of withdrawal. So when I posted on my Facebook page, asking for books that are similar to The Hunger Games, I received a bunch of great suggestions.
The best so far — and the book I am currently reading — is Divergent by Veronica Roth. I’m only a few chapters in, but I already love it for its fast-paced, action-packed storyline that draws the reader right into Roth’s dystopian Chicago.
I will be out of new books to read after I am done with Divergent — does anyone have any other suggestions for fast-paced, adventure books?
3. Up All Night
I just caught this new NBC series on Hulu and I couldn’t help but fall in love. And I won’t lie — there were moments when I couldn’t help but think to myself, ‘Ohmigawd…THIS is my life!’
I knew that the show couldn’t be horrible by just looking at the cast (I *heart* Will Arnett…I want to be his and Amy Poehler’s child!), and I am guessing that it will get better and better as the season progresses.
Maybe then might I finally forgive NBC for canceling Outsourced.
WHAT? outsourced is canceled? OH NO! That was such a funny show, and whatever network canceled a great show “No Ordinary Family.” It was really sad.
I know! I LOVED Outsourced. I hate it when networks cancel great shows and keep crappy ones!
We watched Up All Night last week and I didn’t love it as much as I’d hoped to, especially given the great cast! I could relate to some of it (esp Will Arnett’s character in the grocery store; totally reminds me of my husband), but some of it…’oh, it’s 10 pm, I’ll call the babysitter and we can still go out!’ Who can do that?!? I’ll definitely give it another chance, though.
You’ve definitely got me convinced to read Divergent. I’ve read several good reviews now, so I’ll download it to my Kindle asap!
Love 7 Little Words! My fiance just downloaded it to his phone and I keep stealing his phone to play it. Oh and Up All Night is fantastic so far, can’t wait to see next week’s episode. I bought 2 of the 3 Hunger Games books and I need to read them already because I have heard nothing but amazing things about them.
I suggest that you pick up the third book as soon as you start the second, because if I had to wait between any of the three books I would’ve died! 😛
I loved Divergent! Have you read the Uglies Trilology by Scott Westerfield? Another great YA dystopian series!
No, I haven’t even heard of it until you mentioned it! I just read the description (and the reviews) on Amazon and it sounds great! Thanks for the rec!
Oooh, thanks for posting the recommendation for Divergent! I read THG back in July (more like I inhaled it in a few days), and have been looking for something as equally exciting and fast paced! Will have to download it 🙂
Woot! Another word game to get hopelessly addicted too! I may have to read The Hunger Games now.. everyone has told me I should.. it apparently parallels one of my own chains of short stories. (Not saying anymore about that cause we are making them into a web series!)
As far as book recommendations go.. I am really Enjoying “A Song of Fire and Ice” by George R.R. Martin. Nothing is the same as a normal fantasy story, and I spend moments pissed at the author.. to give you an idea.. J.K Rowling is on my shit list cause she killed Hedwig.. But even if I am mad, it makes sense in the story-line. If you haven’t try them out! “A Game of Thrones” is the first one 🙂
Not a huge TV watcher, so I will keep an eye out for when this might hit Netflix. I know it isn’t the same, but we have a Lab who is just turning 2, so for a few week there we got to experience Limited Parenthood!
It’s funny that I am catching your post about 7 little words today. Someone just told me it was great. Guess I will be downloading it!
Other good dystopian books are Wither, Matched and Shades of Grey. I wanted to like Bumped, but the characters got annoying and Uglies was just poorly written and got progressively more boring with each book. Oh, and Never Let Me Go (it was made in to a movie with Keira Knightley) has very little action but is an absolutely fascinating and beautifully written dystopian novel. Also, I am now hooked on 7 Words. Curses.
I’m planning on watching Up All Night too – I haven’t watched the pilot yet! And I’ll have to check out that book – it sounds fantastic!
legend by marie lu. it’s another dystopian type book. it’s wonderful so far. i won an ARC and in the middle of reading it. it’s supposed to be comparable to hunger games.
That sounds interesting (and even the cover design looks similar to that of The Hunger Games)! But it says that the book isn’t available until the end of the November? Are you reading an excerpt?
I love that game. Have been playing it for weeks now!
Do you play Words with Friends? I’m SarahReede on there if you do and want another game-playing partner.
I’m actually taking a break from Words with Friends because it was taking up too much of my time. 😛 But once I start up again I’ll be sure to add you!
I watched the first episode of Up All Night. Christina Applegate is freaking hysterical – have you ever watched the movie “The Sweetest Thing”? She was so funny in that. I just downloaded that game – totally addictive! I also have Divergent on my ‘to read’ list, it’s SO long (the list I mean).
Re: 7 letter, I compete with Pearl and her sister and ALWAYS lose!
Have you checked out the Dresden Files? Writing isn’t stellar but it’s a fun ride.
Is it just me or did Divergent Bogart Hunger Games movie logo?
yup you are correct. the book isn’t available until the end of nov. i won an ARC (advanced readers copy) from their fb page! you should check it out! CBS films is hosting the contest. i posted a picture up there of the book with the autograph. will let you know how the book is, but i think it’ll be good!
I’m still sad about Outsourced but I am SO looking forward to checking Up All Night out when I get back to the states.
Thanks for the book rec, I asked that exact question on Twitter the other day!
