In addition to Memorial Day, today also marks Quit Facebook Day.
Coincidentally, today’s GraphJam features a poke on Facebook.
According to the website, Over 32,000 people have committed to quitting Facebook today. Sure, that’s barely a scratch in Facebook’s 400+ million users, but it’s still a decent size to openly pack up and leave at once.
Do you know anyone quitting Facebook today?
Just stumbled across your site on Google Reader, and consequently stumbled across this post. I’m one of those 30,000+ that left Facebook on 5/31, and I’m amazed at how much time I have now! Wow, what a time-sucking vortex it is. I left primarily for reasons showcased in your graphic here, and secondarily for “privacy” concerns…though I spew forth half-formed ideas in my own blog that isn’t private…oh well. Not that it’s all this way, but I found how much I was neglecting the close friends (and family) just to surf the latest snippet from someone I barely knew 20 years ago.
I believe the saying goes “Make new friends, treasure the old. One is silver, the other gold.”
Anyway, love your site! Congrats on the baby too.
I did leave fb, and I was tempted to get back, wondering what my friends were saying and but I had to force myself to hold back. It IS addictive and I had to get over it like when I stopped smoking. I have the urges to go back smoking, I stopped 4 years ago, and also to face book which I stopped just 10 days ago.
May be it is time that the Surgeon General issued a warning…..
@Jimmer & @sagramtha — Thank you for the comments! I always love hearing from new visitors, and I really was wondering if anyone had left Facebook that day…glad to finally get confirmations!
