I have been forced to take a short break from blogging due to the horrible migraines I have been experiencing in the past couple of days. I am almost certain that my migraines are hormonal, as I have never gotten one before I got pregnant but regularly suffered them through both pregnancies. And now that I am no longer pregnant, I only get them when I am PMSing.
(Apparently, hormones can play a big role in headaches and migraines. I know this because the interwebz has told me so.)
My migraines — like practically all other physical ailments — are exacerbated by fatigue and lack of sleep. And hey, guess what! I have a 4-month-old and a 17-month-old and I think that the last time I got a good night’s sleep was when I was still pregnant with Claire!
From past experience, the best way to deal with my migraines is to lie in a quiet, dark room with a cold towel over my eyes. Obviously I can’t do this in my current situation, so I just keep popping my Butalbital-APAP-Caffeine pills because they help me to at least get through the day.
I can’t remember the last time I this anxious to get my period.
P.S. — Today is the last day to enter my “My Little Geek” ABC Book Giveaway!
Oh my gosh! How coincidental is this?! I just went to the neurologist yesterday to get a handle on my own migraines. Mine are definitely hormonal and tied to my cycle. The doc said this is incredibly common for women, and I forget the name of the condition but it started with a C, I think. Basically hormone shifts trigger migraines. Mine are always behind my left eye and at the base of my skull. Anyway, he got me some samples of Frova to take a couple of days before my period starts and the first 2 or 3 after. If it works (and I’m hoping it does, I get 3-4 24hr long migraines each month) I will be so thrilled! The bad news was since it’s hormonal it’s likely to be lifelong. That was a bummer to hear 🙁
As someone in day 2 of a post migraine ‘hangover’, I hope you get an opportunity for some relief soon, so you can fully recover.
Sorry you’re going through this. As a life-long migraine sufferer, I empathize. Mine are definitely hormonal and stress related as well. Luckily I have found that Maxalt and Treximet help me quite a bit, but I used to get them for days at a time. Everyone is different, but I encourage you to keep trying different combos and see what helps you.
Interestingly, I just read this blurb about a possible correlation between mother’s with migraine and baby’s colic. I don’t have kids yet, but I’m hoping not to fall into this category!

I read your title and cringed.
I get migraines monthly, and I had them almost constantly when I was on hormonal birth control (my mom warned me, as she gets them as well). Also from stress and lack of sleep! (so, all the time in college)
I know how rough it is to function at work with one – I can only imagine how much harder with two needy babes. Said a prayer for you!
