An old coworker used to joke to me that all Asians look alike to her. While some may find this offensive, I knew that it was all in jest and chided right back that all white people look the same to me.
I think that being Asian myself has helped me become familiar with specific features that are common within the various Asian races; I am usually pretty good when it comes to guessing whether a person is Chinese / Japanese / Korean / Filipino / Vietnamese / Thai / etc.
That being said, when I stumbled upon a website called Asian Look-Alikes, where you are prompted to guess the ethnicity of the pictured person just based on their looks, I was sorely humbled…I performed horribly!
Try it and see how well you do.

I gave up after about 10, all of which were either Chinese, Hong Kong or Taiwanese. I am pretty sure its almost impossible to tell those apart from 1 picture.
Most of the ones I got wrong were between Chinese, Honk Kong, & Taiwanese. To me, Chinese is one ethnicity and we do all look the same. 🙂
China is a very large region and those from the south look a lot more different than those in the south (which is where most of the Chinese people in the u.s are from). The northerners are generally fairer and taller due to the climate, and there are many more ethnicities up there too.
wow. I majore-ly sucked….!!!
ok so I clicked on a few of these and then a picture came up featuring a girl I know from grad school! It's definitely her – it's her current facebook profile photo. Now I keep clicking to see if anyone else I know will shop up… ha.
Argh, mine was totally rigged – 9 Hong Kong in a row! After that I was demoralized and started to just give up and guess at random. I do try to distinguish different racial traits (mostly face shapes) but I'm really tired from a day of powerhouse Thanksgiving prep so I'm doing poorly.
And isn't it kind of cheating to have just one option for Chinese? How many different ethnicities fall under that heading anyway?
