A Compilation of Claire’s Recent Funnies

The Nail Clipper:

Claire hates, hates, HATES getting her toenails clipped. She’s okay with us clipping her fingernails, but she has a strong aversion to our clipping her toenails…she’ll even start crying when she sees us clipping Aerin’s toenails! (I’ve tried clipping my own in front of her, making it seem like it was THE most fun and exciting thing in the world, but she still hates it. If anyone has any advice on this front, I’d love to hear it.)

The other day, I noticed that a few of her toenails were getting too long so I knew that we needed to take care of them. As expected, Claire bawled her eyes out and continued to sniff long after I was done. Since I was busy trying to cheer her up after the event, I failed to put away the nail clipper properly…and as soon as Claire felt better she got ahold of it. And before I could get it back from her, she began to shove the clipper between the couch cushions! The little booger was trying to hide it away so that I wouldn’t be able to use it in the future!

Her Stuffed Giraffe:

Earlier this week I caught Claire taking our Baby Bjorn (being small for her age, Aerin is not quite big enough to comfortably fit in the Pognae yet) out of its usual resting place. Curious to see what she would do with it, I sat back and left her alone. She struggled with it for quite some time, and only when she began to drag it to the full-length mirror in her room, picking up her giraffe on the way, did I realize that she was trying to wear her giraffe with the Baby Bjorn just as she sees me do with Aerin!

And yesterday, she placed her giraffe on the bouncer and insisted that we strap it in, just as we do with Aerin. Once it was securely strapped in, she turned on the music and vibration — once again, just like we do with Aerin.

Cute Interactions with Claire’s Lovey

Soon after Claire was born, we received a package from our Canadian friend Girl on the Park — an adorable stuffed giraffe for Claire! We kept the giraffe in Claire's crib through sleep training and teething, often placing it into her arms so that she could use it as a source of comfort. Before long, it be came apparent that this giraffe had become Claire's lovey. Claire at four months with her lovey. When we realized how attached Claire had gotten to her giraffe, I quickly sought out a duplicate and purchased it so that we can have another on hand just in case the original became damaged or lost. We kept both in her crib and always washed them together so that...

Google’s Geeky Valentine Surprise

Happy Valentine's Day! For a sweet Valentine's surprise, type this into a Google search: sqrt(cos(x))*cos(300x)+sqrt(abs(x))-0.7)*(4-x*x)^0.01, sqrt(6-x^2), -sqrt(6-x^2) from -4.5 to 4.5 Too lazy or suspicious to try it for yourself? What will happen is that the algebraic equation will plot out a graph in the shape of a heart, like so: Feel free to share this with your geeky friends! Via Mashable. ...

Toddlers and Tiaras: Claire Edition

We do our best not to push our girls into stereotypical gender roles or characteristics. And while we would secretly love it if they turn into tomboys, we never force them to play (or not play) with certain toys and encourage them to allow their own preferences to develop. As it turns out, our 16-month-old Claire is becoming the exact opposite of a tomboy. She is, in fact, turning into a frilly girl. Our suspicions started about a month ago, when we began to let her "choose" her own clothes. (We give her an option of weather- and activity-appropriate clothes to choose from.) And wouldn't you know it — she would ALWAYS pick something pink. And just in case it was a fluke — "Why...

Lunar New Year Paper Crafts by Canon

This weekend, as he does every year, J will be decorating our home for Lunar New Year with various Chinese paper cutouts and prints which are meant to ward off bad spirits and bring good fortune to the household in the new year. For those who may be unfamiliar with Chinese culture, the Lunar New Year is a BIG deal in China. Workers usually take an entire month off so that they can travel to be with their families, and the weeks-long celebrations are loud, exuberant, and can be pretty intense. Since J's birthday falls in the same week as the Lunar New Year Day this year, he will be taking the entire week off next week to properly celebrate both....
