I have always had a soft spot for architecture. I mean, who hasn’t seriously considered becoming an architect after reading Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead?
And as cliché as it sounds, Frank Lloyd Wright has always been my favorite architect and Fallingwater my favorite residential building.
Visiting Fallingwater has been on my to-do list for over a decade. Unfortunately, the 6+ hour drive to western Pennsylvania is too daunting for this lazy geek. Perhaps we can make a weekend trip of it years down the road, with kids screaming in the back seat, “Are we there yet?!!”
For now, I can almost feel like I’m there…AND see how it was constructed in this beautiful animation by Cristobal Vila.

P.S. — How could I end this post without once mentioning LEGO® Fallingwater?
Faillingwater is on my must see list too! My Dad’s business partner is stopping by on his family vacation this summer and I am super jealous!
Art Vandalay. I mean, Jenny, you *must* see it and Kentuck Knob while you’re in PA. And get the private sunset tour. You get to see rooms that big groups don’t get to venture in!
My parents took us to Falling Water as a field trip one year. It was amazing. I think the combination of being exposed to great architecture, my Dad’s line of work in construction, and my leaning towards literature/the arts (I can’t believe I just read The Fountainhead this past year!), has also made me inclined to be partial to Frank Lloyd Wright. There’s an entire website devoted to residential homes that he designed that are for sale. Sometimes I browse the site thinking about which remote house I would love the most.
