Last night, while walking in SoHo, I noticed twin, parallel spotlights glowing just south of us. Being the idiot that I am, I asked, “Ooh, what’s going on over there? Is it a party? A premiere? Let’s go check it out!”

The city of New York is eerily solemn today. I can’t believe it’s been seven years, because it feels like it was just last year that I watched the smoke rising from the Twin Towers.

• The Force Unleashed demo breaks XBLM download record, Joystiq. Granted, I’ve been very busy this past week but I can’t believe I haven’t downloaded this yet! I hang my head in shame…
• Large Hadron Collider: Best- and Worst-Case Scenarios, Wired Science. There are thousands of articles about the LHC out there, but I’ve found this one to be one of the best. Once again, Wired comes through!
• Production Model Photos Of The Chevy Volt, Geekologie. I was impressed when I saw the concept design for Chevy’s new electric car. The design wasn’t bad at all for Chevy…in fact, it was pretty nice. Well scratch that. What the hell went wrong between the concept design and production?
• Dell fails to distract anyone, Engadget. I can’t believe Dell actually used the same manila envelope concept as the MacBook Air to advertise their Latitude E4200. What’s even sadder is that the envelope looks much bulkier than it did with the MacBook Air.
• 7 Things I learned reading North Korea’s newspaper, Mental Floss Blog. Funny but very sad at the time time.
• 10 Record-Breaking Consumer Gadgets, Gizmodo. I can’t help it – who doesn’t dig the biggest and baddest?
• Here They Are, Science’s 10 Most Beautiful Experiments, NYTimes. A long but inspirational read.
• Real live Pokemon auctions for $925 million, TokyoMango. Who wants to bet that the winner of the auction will receive 20 hamsters spray-painted yellow? The picture on the auction page does look very cute though…
• Apple Admits British Man Invented iPod in 1979, Uses Him to Win Patent Lawsuit, Gizmodo. If this lawsuit never came up, do you think Apple would have ever contacted this man? I feel sorry for the guy.
• History’s Most Viral Photoshopped Pics Explained, Neatorama. I confess I fell for quite a few of these photos when they first circulated on the internet. Good to know their origins!
• Google Chrome’s Got SAL 9000’s Eye, Neatorama. When I first saw Google Chrome’s logo, I thought it looked like a cross between a Pokeball and SAL 9000, using Google’s colors. Ha! I’m not the only one who thought so!
• NBC dumps Microsoft Silverlight after Olympics, ValleyWag. Is the issue really usability issues or corporate sponsorship?
